Match Ignition: You turn your gas valve on (using a key) while lighting the burner with a match or stick lighter.
Pilot Ignition: You turn your gas valve on (using a key) and leave it on at all times. Then you light the integrated pilot by turning pilot knob and lighting it using the integrated push button ignitor. Once the pilot is lit, you can adjust the flame height by simply turning the integrated pilot knob. When finished, you can turn the integrated pilot knob all the way down and keep a "standing pilot" through the cooler winter months. (Either this set or a remote set is required in liquid propane applications.)
Remote Ignition: Similar to the Pilot Ignition, you turn your gas valve on (using a key) and leave it on at all times. Then simply press the "on" button from your handheld remote to turn it on. To turn it off simply press the "off" button from your handheld remote. You can also control the set using the receiver switch inside the fireplace, everything is battery operated. (Either this set or a pilot set is required in liquid propane applications.)
MATCH IGNITION
Pros: Low Maintenace & Less Expensive.
Cons: Takes more effort & can be scary to use if not done properly.
PILOT IGNITION
Pros: Convenience of keeping a lit pilot during the winter months & not having to manually light it before each use.
Cons: Having to reach in the fireplace to initially light the pilot.
REMOTE IGNITION
Pros: Easy to use, simply press on/off button on handheld remote & no need to run power as it runs off batteries.
Cons: More Expensive, Bulky receiver boxes & Requires maintenance.
